Chris – cafepress.com is really good for making custom merchandizing.
I’d like to add something on Allie’s stressing of good editing. Americans are notoriously poor at their own language, and you’re probably four times as likely to find someone who will make fun of you as OCD for being a fussy editor than you will find someone who will take the time to edit a document. I am one of those people who is OCD about it, though, because as someone who is forced to do a lot of reading for his job on a daily basis, I really appreciate clean documents where time was spent on proper formatting, spacing, and aligning. Lazy writers are not appreciating the fact that poor presentation and poor editing causes a strain on the reader’s eyes. Removing visual clutter, whether that’s in the form of type-o’s, poor punctuation, mal-aligned paragraphs, or whatever… It makes the work more visually appealing and easier to read. I don’t think nearly enough emphasis is put on this subject. Sure, substance trumps polish. But a good polish makes the substance more accessible.
Greg,
Allie here. As a freelance editor, I couldn’t agree with you more. And also as a freelance editor, I’m saddened to see the art of editing dying a slow yet inexorable death, much as I’m sure typesetters are lamenting the death of their trade as well in the wake of ebooks.
Thanks for the tip, Greg! We may just see a Detective Agency hoodie yet! LOL
