  • In Episode 75: NotGaDeMon, I talked about an early prototype for the game I’m (slowly) working on. I sent a link to the game to Allison and Chris during the show and said I’d put the link up on the website. So, here I am. Doing that. This will eventually be a demolition derby game. It is still very early. I don’t have any sound and the cars don’t get damaged. I’m plugging away at though. I actually worked on it yesterday and today. I’m hoping to make some good progress over the holiday break. Check it out: http://level1gamer-demolition.appspot.com/ Use the...0December 20, 2012

    Corey’s Proto Game

  • It’s that time of year again. The days have grown short, the wind brisk. Leaves are piling up in crisp, sweet-smelling drifts, and the spirits are restless. Soon, they will come out to play and they will have stories to tell, and it just so happens they want to use you as their vessel. However, we here at Creative Commoners HQ aren’t a fan of disorganized spirits just wandering and blabbering aimlessly, so we’ve provided the following prompt: “It was Halloween night, so of course…”  Using up to 1200 words (roughly…we want you to have room to play, but just don’t...0September 29, 2012

    Writing Challenge: Halloween Stories

  • Tales of High Adventure returns with all new original yarns! And it includes a story from our very own Corey Bishop… or should we say, our very own C. L. Bishop! Tales of High Adventure is a quarterly book of prose stories and illustrated tales as published in the pulp magazines of the 1930′s and 1940′s such as Weird Tales, Astounding Stories, Spicy Mystery Stories, Amazing Stories, and Startling Stories! And it’s put together by a team that includes our previous guest host Paul Fini, whom we chatted with in Episode 11. This issue features all new original stories: Rooftops by Mark D. Howard The Creeping...0July 19, 2012

    Writing Challenge: Story Prompt

  • EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! Creative Commoners Extend Writing Challenge Deadline! Submissions now due by APRIL 27TH!   It’s that time again, folks! We’re calling all Commoners back to their writing desks (and hopefully their microphones) for our third writing challenge! This time, we’re asking you to look deeply into your past, or maybe last week, and tell us of a time when you did something that utterly mortified you. Maybe it was something that ruined your day or cost you your job, or made your dog run away from home because he was so embarrassed for you. Or maybe...2April 8, 2012

Writing Challenge: Making a Fool of Yourself

  • Article by Corey Bishop One of our main goals here at the Creative Commoners Podcast is to foster creativity in all its forms. Each week we talk about how to encourage that creative spark. We have even held two creative challenges to get our listeners involved. We talk a lot our various creative projects: Chris’ webcomic, Allison’s novels, and Corey’s short stories and game development. But, until now, we haven’t gone into detail on how we produce one of our biggest creative projects, the podcast itself. This post serves as a companion to Episode 30: Creating an Electric Audio Podcast....1February 19, 2012

    How to Start a Podcast

  • This post was syndicated from the blog at Allison’s website. I was inspired to write this post after reading the article by Jairus Reddy over at the Hobbes End blog. It basically cautions authors, particularly indie authors, from being too forthright with controversial topics (i.e. politics and religion), or making asses of themselves in social media, because it can cost them book sales. Anyway, this is a topic that has been on my mind for awhile now, and I think it’s something anybody should have to consider when they start opening themselves up to the world, be it through books...0February 15, 2012

Trading Knives for Kid Gloves: Indie Authors and Public Image

  • In Episode 31: King NIFTee and the Smoking Fawn, we had founder and designer of NIFT Shirts, Ryan Eldred, on our show to talk about his business, our ideas on a new social media site (ahem), games, and more. We thought it appropriate to direct you to the funny T-shirts of NIFT so you can check them out yourself. Whether an original design or a play on recent fads, you’re bound to chuckle, possibly even bark out loud, as you check out the site. NIFT Shirts0February 11, 2012

You can also hit the social media button added to our list above. New episodes of the podcast will filter out to the YouTubes each week, so stay tuned for the electric audio program 9 out of 10 audiophiles...0February 6, 2012

    Creative Commoners Join the YouTubes

  • Way back in Episode 22: Corey’s Ultimate SciFi Book List Journey Through Time I shared my project of working through a list of great science fiction literature in chronological order. I meant to post this list back when the episode aired, but, well, the holidays happened and I never got around to it. Better late than never.0January 17, 2012

    Corey’s Sci-Fi Book List

  • Up until now, we have used the Creative Commoners website to mainly distribute the show andpost show notes. We want to broaden the scope of the website to include posts on creativity and articles of interest. Look for more articles like this in the future! Back in Episode 6 I shared Lester Dent’s (creator of pulp hero Doc Savage) master plot formula. It basically consists of piling more grief on your hero until they triumph at the end. It was designed for a narrow purpose: telling simple, yet action packed short stories. It is not suited for a longer story...0October 3, 2011

    Dan Harmon’s Story Formula

  • We want your candy. All of it. Yes, even the Smartees and the Bit O’ Honey and the endless Tootsie Rolls that seem to litter the bottom of every Halloween bag after all the Reese’s Cups and Snickers Bars have been gobbled down. Okay, no, not literally. We here at Creative Commoners love our metaphors every bit as much as we love our candy. It’s officially our Favorite Time of Year, when the leaves are drying up and making that raspy sound when the wind blows them across the pavement, when the chilly air smells of nature getting ready for...0September 30, 2011
